“Oh No” by Andrew Bird
Andrew Bird lept onto my favorites list when I heard a few tracks from his album The Mysterious Production of Eggs a few years ago. In 2007, he came out with Armchair Apocrypha — which remains one of my most listened and loved albums of the past two years (top five, hands down). So, it is with great anticipation and excitement that I greet his new album this week — Noble Beast.
On first listen, it feels a little brighter than Apocrypha. Lighter. It’s interesting to hear songs that I’ve read about the creation of (he wrote a series of articles for the Times about the making of the album). I haven’t had the time to sit down and give the whole thing a proper listen from beginning to end, but I’m thinking it will continue to grow and open up — similar to what Sky Blue Sky did when I first got that gem…
Today’s song is “Oh No”, the opener of the album. (I actually wanted to post “Anonanimal”, which is possibly my favorite track — but there’s a 10MB limit on the site.) So, enjoy. Then, go buy the album.
I get to see him live at Carnegie Hall next week — and I couldn’t be more pumped.
