With all my intra-continental travelling over the past month, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get out a fresh mix. But, hark — I was reminded of the sexy new Spotify iPad application that I had yet to explore. And so, there I sat in the waiting area of the Toronto City Island Airport, crafting a collection of tuneage to sate the appetites of the masses (which, from what I can tell, is Benny, Eddie, Jeff and Steve). It was quite the enjoyable experience.

In lieu of typing up the playlist track-by-track, I figure I might as well embed it below (feel free to let me know if there are any issues with it).

Suddenly, on set, a large portion of the crew began singing, dancing, and referencing this song. As the giggling spread, the director (from where this all originated) showed me the 1986 video on their phone.

They insist this was a huge hit at the time. Perhaps it was a Canadian thing. Watching it makes me feel like I’m on drugs (which, to be fair, is part of the appeal).

Even more surprising? That there is a huge, multi-layered story going on here, discussing opportunistic capitalism and idealistic socialism.

Truly, a timeless classic.

Twenty four years ago “Vivid” was released.

I still remember buying the cassette tape after seeing this video — “Open Letter (To A Landlord)” quickly became my next favorite song on the album. A few weekends ago, this song came on in the car and I started “air drumming” along to it. My 18-month-old daughter began laughing uncontrollably at me.

Out of pride, I’m sure.
