Another byproduct of my return to 8-hour office workdays?  Many more songs finding their way into the ol’ “Mix This” folder.  Therefore, even though it is still January, I put together yet another playlist/mixtape — for those who might be inclined to such things.  Enjoy “Mehr Januar (More January)”:

  2. “Black Night” - The Dodos
  3. “Pitseleh” - Elliott Smith
  4. “I Want The World To Stop” - Belle & Sebastian
  5. “Ray Charles” - Chiddy Bang
  6. “Guru” - Millions
  7. “California Sunrise” - Dirty Gold
  8. “I Think I Need A New Heart” - The Magnetic Fields
  9. “Simple Song” - The Shins
  10. “The Wagon” - Dinosaur Jr.
  11. “Down On The Street” - The Stooges
  12. “Wish” - Nine Inch Nails
  13. “We Are Gonna Be Friends” - Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit
  14. “We Used To Wait” - Arcade Fire

Last week, the Onion A.V. Club announced a wicked new project: “A.V. Undercover”.  The premise is a fun one — they compiled a list of 25 songs for 25 different bands.  Each week, one of the 25 bands comes in, takes a look at the list, and picks a song to cover.  Once a song has been performed, it is crossed off — leaving the final band with only one selection to play (my money is on “Kokomo”).

For the first song, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists chose “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears.  As you will see in the video, they tore it up something fierce.  My esteem for Mr. Leo (already quite high: Bloomfield, NJ raised!) has risen a few more notches.

The real question on everyone’s mind, though, is whether or not Starbucks will be releasing these bad boys for download and/or purchase.  For my iPod’s sake, I hope the answer is yes.

(Note — for some odd reason, the Onion won’t allow for the resizing of their embedded videos.  You can still watch and listen above easily — just click on the screen to start/pause — although a little of it is cropped.  If you would like to see it in full screen, check out the A.V. Club Site.)
