MTV.com finally put up some songs from The National show that I saw a few weeks back.  Here’s the final song — “Terrible Love” — and you get a shiny nickel if you can spot my balding, bearded head at the end when I’m holding him up in the air.  If you liked this at all, be sure to check out the other tunes and interviews over at the website proper.

The National - Studio @ Webster Hall

Since I introduced him to the band (and the fact that his wife was conveniently out of town), my pal Kyle took me along to see The National tonight after he scored tickets to their secret 300-person show at Webster Hall.  It was in the tiny studio space below Webster — which was smaller than both The Chameleon (for you Lancaster folk) and The Haunt (for you Ithaca folk).

The show was, as one can guess, increíble.  It was being taped for MTV Live, so I’m assuming parts of it will be on there or online at some point in the future.  Keep an eye out for the finale when Mr. Berniger comes into the crowd and we hold him up in the air at the back of the club.

Not sure if I can ever see them in concert again — I’m afraid it would just be a let-down.

(Update: you can see more photos and a setlist over at Brooklyn Vegan.)

Song For The Moment

“Afraid of Everyone” by The National

Little D shot me a message from Londontown this morning, letting me know that The Grey Lady — aka, The New York Times — will be streaming The National’s forthcoming album (High Violet), beginning this Friday, April 23rd.

I’ve been waiting with bated breath for the past few months in anticipation of this Album.  Nice to see that it’s almost here.  In the meantime, enjoy a slice of it with the track “Afraid of Everyone”, above.
